Demos: a social network built on trust.

Reclaiming Respect. Reinforcing Trust. Rebuilding Conversation.

We studied how people use Instagram, Facebook, Threads and X, then designed a new platform where every post can be fact-checked and every voice carries an AI Trust Score.

01Phase 1 · Discover

Listening to the feed.

We spent the discovery phase inside the platforms people already use — auditing feeds, reply threads, moderation notices and community notes to see where trust breaks down and conversation turns hostile.

  • Social listening across public threads
  • Content and moderation audits
  • User interviews with heavy posters
  • Misinformation journey mapping

Accessibility

Trust signals everyone can read.

A01

Never color alone

Verified and flagged states pair shield shapes, icons and text labels, not only blue vs red.

A02

WCAG 2.2 AA contrast

Navy, crimson and gradient text checked at 4.5:1 in both light and dark themes.

A03

Screen-reader trust labels

Shields and scores announce e.g. “Fact-checked: accurate, Trust Score 87 of 100”.

A04

Keyboard and focus

Full keyboard path through feed, composer and fact-check sheet with visible focus rings.

A05

Touch targets

Rail icons and post actions sized at least 44 × 44 px.

A06

Reduced motion and text scaling

Animations respect prefers-reduced-motion; layouts hold at 200% text size.

02Phase 2 · Define

The real problem isn’t content. It’s credibility.

Synthesis showed users don’t leave networks because of too much content — they disengage when they can’t tell what’s true or who to believe.

How might weshow whether a post is accurate without leaving the feed?
How might wereward credible voices instead of the loudest ones?
How might welet authors set the tone of who can reply?
03Phase 3 · Ideate

Two features no one else had.

From dozens of concepts, two value-adds rose to the top in co-design sessions and became the heart of Demos.

Post Fact Check

Any claim can be checked in one tap. Results appear inline as a verified or flagged shield, with sources a reader can open.

  • Inline verified / flagged shields
  • Linked, readable sources
  • Author can respond to checks

AI Trust Score

A transparent 0–100 score that reflects a profile’s accuracy history, civility and community endorsements — explained, never hidden.

  • Explainable score breakdown
  • Rises with accurate posting
  • Feeds the Demos Feed ranking
04Phase 4 · Design and prototype

Red, white and blue — re‑engineered.

The visual language draws on the American flag: deep navy for authority, crimson for energy, white for clarity. Stars texture the navigation rail, stripes shape the logo, and every icon was drawn custom for Demos.

High-fidelity screens · End-to-end flows

Over 100 screens, every flow mapped.

05Phase 5 · Test and iterate

Tested with real posters, refined in rounds.

Moderated sessions validated that readers understood shields and scores at a glance. We iterated on wording, contrast and the score explanation, then handed off developer-ready specs for both themes.

  1. Round 1

Trust Score felt like a judgment — reframed with an explainable breakdown.

  2. Round 2

Flag shield contrast raised to meet WCAG 2.2 AA in dark mode.

  3. Round 3

Reply controls (“Anybody can interact”) moved into the composer.

  4. Handoff

Tokens, icon set and light/dark specs shipped to engineering.
